I don't know about you, but I'm one of those people who, whilst happy to sit by a pool and relax at times, also needs a bit of culture, history and adventure thrown in!
The South of France is perfect for this and ticks every box. Mountains, sea, historic towns and even a bungee swing!
With flight times of less than an hour from the UK, you could soon be sat on the beach, walking along the Promenade des Anglais, drinking Châteauneuf-du-Pape in a sunny vineyard or even soaking up the scent of aromatic lavender fields on a warm day.
There is so much on offer and a trip with James Villa Holidays is the perfect way to explore the region!
The Côte d'Azur
With seaside resorts such as Saint-Tropez, Nice, Cannes and Antibes, it's easy to see why the French Riviera is so popular.
Of course, you don't need to be rich and famous to visit the area, nor do you require a super yacht.
The villas available to you through James Villa Holidays are beautiful, and are dotted around various parts of the region, all within reach of the airport and coastline!
On top of all that?
It definitely boasts some of the most stunning views of the valleys, mountains and the sea to wake up to.
Things to do on the Côte d'Azur
It's not hard to see why the area was popular with the Romans too. The coastline is filled with Roman towns, amphitheatres and baths.
Many of these ruins still remain and are able to be visited with just a short drive!
This is also a beautiful walking location. You have the famous Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat hike along the coast! You can make this as long or as short as you like, with marked trails from 1 to 7km, and if the heat gets too much and you don't want to walk back, there is always the option to take a train or bus to most of the main towns.
With 6,000 hectares of forest, red volcanic rock and plenty of hiking and mountain biking trails, you'll not be bored...
If you want to stay in your own villa with views across the park, then James Villa Holidays have you covered once more! The Villa St. Jean de L'Esterel overlooks the pine forests and rolling hills of the national park, but is still only a 10 minute drive to the coast.
Imagine waking up to breakfast with a view like this every day?
The famous 25km Verdon Gorge, often referred to as Europe's Grand Canyon is in the region, and is known to be one of the best locations to hike, climb, mountain bike, go canyoning or kayak. If you're feeling a little more adventurous, or crazy, you could even swing jump through the canyon!
Worried about your baggage allowance for those large groups? James Villa Holidays have a best price guaranteed policy and include all your baggage within flight costs too!
If you want to find other things to do in the area, all villas have in resort managers, who will be more than willing to help you out!
Things to do in Provence?
If wine is your thing, then why not head over to the famous medieval town of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. It's about 2.5hrs from Cannes but worth the journey, as towering over the surrounding hills there are wonderful views to be found from the chateau! The origins of this town? Châteauneuf-du-Pape translates to 'the pope's new house' as the Popes of Avignon built their summer palace here. It's very well known now for its famous wines and it was the first vineyard in France to have wine protected, the forerunner of the now well known appellations contrôlées! There are marked hiking trails out of the town with paths running both in and around the local vineyards.
