I've had such a fascination with the sea since I was small. It started with playing on the beach and pretending to be a mermaid/dolphin (didn't we all?) and progressed to a fascination with maritime history, a desire to run away to sea and join the Royal Navy, spending all my teenage spare time in the Sea Cadet Corps and now another change of tack to working in maritime security and studying for my shipping exams.
I can't imagine not living close to the sea, it calms me, it de-stresses me and when I feel like I'm about to have a breakdown, it stops that from happening. I lived an hour from the sea as a child, then went to university in Plymouth. Now I live in Hampshire and apart from Plymouth, it's the closest I've lived to the sea and I love it. The past few months I've had to work every single day off I've had (today was not an exception) but I was by the sea and the frustration I had building up has gone.
As above, I won a chair on eBay from Lymington which was my spur for heading to the coast today, but I feel so much calmer about everything now, and a lot less panicked for my exams in April. Phew! I genuinely don't think there is a problem in the world that cannot he helped (at least a small amount) by sea air and bracing winds.
I love Hampshire, I love my new found proximity to the sea and can't wait to get out and about a lot more in the coming months and years in my newly adopted home county.
