Such an intrepid explorer...
This photo was taken at the Avakas Gorge, somewhere I have returned to on every trip to Paphos since. Scroll down for more photos of this amazing natural feature.
This was my first sunny holiday abroad. I blame my mum for introducing me to hot weather at a young age, as I now can't seem to manage without it!
As part of this trip we also hopped on a cruise ship to Egypt and visited the Pyramids, Sphinx and Cairo Museum. That's for another post perhaps.
Athena Royal Beach Hotel
hen I most recently headed back to Paphos with my mum on a girly holiday, this was where we stayed. It's now an adults only hotel, which personally I am a big fan of. No children bombing in pools, no heat induced tantrums.
If you want a perfect holiday to relax, this is the place...

The gorge was created by a river, as with many geological features. The Grand Canyon it is not, but these photos do not do it justice. It is absolutely breathtaking (if you ignore the millions of cobwebs lacing the walls of the gorge).
Make sure if you do head up there that you take enough water. The first time we visited I remember a girl all but fainted and even her parents wouldn't give her some of their water (good parenting there, guys) so mum gave her some of hers. It's also important to wear sensible shoes. Too many people in flip flops seemed to struggle, a lot.
Top tip: Go in to Paphos and book this directly through a tourism office. By booking through a holiday rep you will end up paying so much more. We went on a tour that cost us around 80 euros for the entire day, including lunch. Others paid upwards of 150 Euros for the same trip through their reps.
Sea Turtle Sanctuary
Near Paphos, and as part of this same excursion we had the opportunity to go to the sea turtle conservation station at Lara Beach and I was more than a little excited, it's safe to say. I even got to hold a baby sea turtle, which was definitely up there with some of the best moments of my life.
Baths of Aphrodite
It is said that if you bathe in the water you will be given eternal youth or you will fall for the next person you see
